Panasonic Camera Series: Full Frame Mirrorless, Micro 4/3

You can determine the status of the camera model you are interested in by belonging to a specific series. Moreover, it should be borne in mind that each leading manufacturer of photographic equipment cultivates its own family tree. As part of the article, we will focus on deciphering the series of cameras from Panasonic.

It’s no secret that a clear view hierarchy can be traced in the family of cameras. At the lower levels are simple digital compacts, while the higher echelons of power are full-frame DSLRs and mirrorless cameras, or even delegates of a small detachment of medium format.

G, GX, GH (Micro 4/3 system mirrorless)

Panasonic is based on mirrorless cameras of the Micro 4/3 system. The current generation of such cameras includes three series:

  • G – cameras of a mirrorless design, similar to DSLRs;
  • GX – compact cameras with thin flat bodies;
  • GH – professional tools with an eye on video shooting.

Until about the middle of 2016, there were more of them the GM and GF lines were “cut out” for the sake of the development of the above-mentioned series of cameras.

In the expanded naming of all mirrorless cameras of the brand, the prefixes DMC (short for Digital Media Camera) and DC (abbreviation for Digital Camera – in a modern way) also appear.
