It seemed that not so long ago a stationary computer with a powerful processor and a wide monitor was the pinnacle of the development of electronics. But, after a very short time, it was replaced by a more mobile laptop and its various modifications: netbook, smartbook, ultrabook, tablet. And now 2 in 1 laptop also know as convertible laptops are also gaining momentum. What are they good for (or not) we figure it out.

What Are 2 In 1 Laptops?
The 2 In 1 Laptop or convertible laptop is a kind of compromise between classic laptops and portable tablets. Its creators tried to combine in one device all the characteristics that are important for the modern user: performance, graphics, lightness, ergonomic appearance but putting mobility in the first place. The attempt turned out to be very successful, and today in the line of almost every electronics manufacturer there is a laptop transformer.
The main distinguishing feature of this gadget, inherent in the name, is that it is 2 in 1 laptop and a tablet. In cases when you need to work with documents, find something on the Internet, or play use it as a standard model. And if, for example, you decided to read something or watch a movie, you folded the screen and in your hands, you have a large and bright tablet.
The process of “transformation” is almost always the same – the screen is completely folded, inverted 360 degrees, turning a familiar laptop into a kind of tablet. Naturally, the transformers have touch screens for manual control. Some models come with special styluses.
A rarer type of transformer is when the screen is attached to high hinge axes and does not fold into a tablet, but can change its position relative to the body and keyboard like a swing. The range of angles of rotation is much wider than that of standard laptops.
In some review articles, they also write about a subspecies of transforming laptops, in which the screen is completely unfastened from the keyboard. But here it is important to understand that all the stuffing of the laptop is located just in the case under the keyboard, and disconnecting the display is, in principle, unrealistic. So the models described above are not laptops as such, but stand-alone tablets (just large and powerful), which come with a platform with a keyboard.
Pros and cons of 2 in 1 laptops
Pros of 2 In 1 Laptops
Naturally, the most important plus of transformers is, of course, functionality. Instead of one device, you get two at once: a laptop and a tablet. For those who are used to being mobile and prefer not to adapt to the situation, but to be its master, a transformer laptop will come in handy.
Lightness and compactness are not that much of an advantage, but a clear distinctive feature of transformers. Most models weigh in the range of 2-2.5 kilograms and at the same time can have a fairly impressive display diagonal of up to 15.6 inches. Usually these are thin ultrabooks in metal or plastic cases. And they can be both focused exclusively on modest work with documents, and they can be distinguished by a rather powerful filling.
Modern style. Transformers are definitely becoming a kind of lawmakers in the world of presentable gadgets. They immediately add +100 to the owner’s image, directly saying that you keep up with the times and follow the latest trends in the techno world.
Cons of 2 in 1 laptops
The peculiarity of transformers is their fragility. Although here it is more likely not about the factory and fundamental fragility, but about the specifics of use. It is much easier to damage the screen when you are directly working with it. There is also a high risk of dropping or hitting the two-kilogram laptop that you hold the canopy. You need to be careful with the transformer hold on tightly, do not throw, do not hit, turn the screen over without effort and pressure, so as not to damage the hinges and the case, watch the safety of the keyboard on the other hand, do not poke foreign objects into the screen.
Despite the fact that transformer laptops can be of varying degrees of coolness, you should not expect any special game sharpening from them. The thin cases of ultrabooks, which are most of these models, simply do not include a powerful video card or good cooling. Still, this type of laptop is designed for other purposes. There are exceptions, though.
If you are looking for a car that will stand in your home, be used for office work, games and social networks – think if you really need a modern transformer. It may be much easier to purchase a standard modification without overpaying for a fancy design and touchscreen.
But if you are often on the road, are used to squeezing the maximum out of technology and have been looking for a long time how to replace your tablet with something larger – transformers will obviously come in handy.
